The 'Tush Push' will remain a legal play in 2024 NFL season

The "Tush Push" is here to stay in the NFL. At least for the 2024 season according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday.

The play has become somewhat controversial over the past two years with some discussion as to whether or not the league would move to ban it given the success the Philadelphia Eagles have had with it.

But NFL executive Troy Vincent said on Thursday that no rule change proposal will be brought forward this offseason to ban the play, which means the Eagles — and any other team — will still be able to use it this upcoming season.

The play is a throwback to the early days of professional football where the offense lines up in a tight, jumbo formation with running backs directly behind the quarterback. At the snap they push the quarterback into the line while the offensive line drives forward. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are by far the best at it.

While Eagles opponents might hate it, the reality is they are the only team that has successfully mastered it. No other team in the league is as good at it as they are, and there are two big reasons for their success.

The Eagles' offensive line is better than most teams, and Hurts is stronger than most quarterbacks.

It is not easy to duplicate those two things.

It will be interesting to see how successful the Eagles are it without the presence of center Jason Kelce following his retirement this offseason.

Overall this is the right call by the NFL. It is not an unstoppable play, other than when the Eagles do it, although even they are not immune. They should not be punished for being better at something than everybody else is.
