Michigan football becoming a threat for elite 2025 safety

In the recruitment of four-star safety Jordan Young, Clemson has felt like the team to beat. But after securing an official visit on a weekend that was set for an SEC school, Michigan football isn’t out of it yet.

Young, who is ranked 45th overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, is a 6-foot, 185-pound safety out of Monroe, North Carolina.

Back on April 30th, Young released a top eight, which included Michigan football as well as Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and others. The Wolverines were working to get into the top group that got an official visit.

Florida State, North Carolina State, and Clemson already had official visits scheduled. Tennessee had one too for June 21-23. However, according to a post from Young on X, he will spend that weekend in Ann Arbor, on an official visit to see Michigan football.

Clemson has a slight lead according to the On3 prediction machine. It gives the Tigers a 24 percent chance to win Young’s commitment with Michigan, Florida State, and NC State all above 10 percent.

According to the spring visits, Michigan football, Clemson, and Florida State seem like the top three. Young hasn’t visited NC State this spring, but it is an in-state school, so maybe that doesn’t matter as much. The four-star safety was in Ann Arbor on April 15th. Florida State also got a visit in April, while Clemson hosted Young twice for visits this spring.

Clemson is the crystal ball leader but this feels like a winnable recruitment for Michigan football. The official visit could tell the story and U-M is scheduled to get the final visit for now.
